March 2008: Volume One, Number Three

Are You An Earthlink?
By Bill Weaver

It is rather uncomfortable for me to share this because it’s not about “me.”  It’s all about Him!  I write this ONLY to glorify God and to encourage you.

In the January edition of BeliversinAmerica I shared a bit of my story.  At that time, nearly thirty-five years ago, I was a new believer, excited at what the Lord was doing in my new life in Him, and took the bold step of sharing Christ with a business associate who was experiencing a difficult time in his marriage.  (See BIA archives “Integration and Integrity” Volume One, Number One).  During the time of their separation, my associate’s wife (who I did not know at the time) had accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was praying for a man to share Christ with her estranged husband, David.  Unbeknownst to me and by God’s divine providence, I was afforded that privilege.  As awkward and uncomfortable as it was for me to share Spiritual matters with a business associate, my concern for him combined with God’s obvious prompting enabled me to step up and openly share.  Eventually Dave did accept Jesus into his life as well, and their marriage was beautifully restored and stands as a powerful testimony to God’s love and grace. And a cherished, deep and lasting friendship was born from a business association.

This experience also had a profound impact on my life. Seeing first-hand how God can use our feeble efforts to perform His miraculous works in the lives of others has been significant in my desire to create this ministry/newsletter. He planted that first seed in my heart when He allowed me to be included in His plan for David and his wife. That desire became a reality when the January edition of BelieversinAmerica was published.

David forwarded a copy of the newsletter to a friend of his…and here is Dave’s friend’s response.
He asked Dave to share it.

“I just got around to reading this newsletter and want to pass on the rest of the story.

At the time David was saved, I was living with him, sharing an apartment.  He came back from visiting his wife one day and said something had changed her and he wanted to move back home with his family. I was out of work, recently divorced, had nothing but the clothes on my back, not even a car. I had lost everything because of the sin in my life.  After Dave was saved and his marriage restored, I moved in with he and his wife.  I went to church with them, watched Christian TV with them and was generally bombarded by the Holy Spirit.  Eventually, several weeks later, on a basketball court, David led me in the 'sinner’s prayer.'

What a joy to have your best friend, whom you have known since you were 3 years old, become your best Spiritual friend.  Today Dave and I have known each other for over 60 years, in good times and bad, as sinners and saved. He and his wife are my closest friends even though we live more than 1,000 miles apart.

I have helped start two ministries here in Dallas, participated in prison ministry for over 15 years and have been used by God to touch countless lives over the past 34 years.

This story just goes to prove that being bold for the Lord has a rippling effect that never ends, even over generations.

Thank you for your obedience, Bill Weaver. That one conversation has resulted in countless people being touched and joining the family of God.”  B.P.

Praise God! Isn’t it amazing to read what He can do through one simple conversation? He uses little things to defeat large enemies. "God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence."
(1 Corinthians 1:27-29).

If you think you don’t have much to offer, think again. Often we don’t step outside our comfort zone as we should because we’re afraid we don’t have all the answers. But the Lord isn’t looking for giants with gleaming armaments. He’s looking for a few people who will trust Him, gather a handful of stones, and tackle the devil with a slingshot in the name of the Lord God of the armies of Israel.

That can be you!

Ask God today to help you hear the Holy Spirit's voice so that you might be used mightily in your workplace. Let me assure you that He has placed you in your business environment for a reason and gifted you to work and minister. You matter to Him. You are an important earth link between those in your life and Jesus. I urge you to be alert to the opportunities He places before you.

The greatest ability is avail-ability!
